Scots Boys & Girls Go Two and Ohhh
It was hot (over 90 degrees) and dusty at Golden Valley today and many athletes may have gotten dizzy going round and round on the Golden Valley looped course. The course ran a lap around the track (hence the dust), a big loop around the grass field and then a small loop near the track. Then back on the track.
The JV races ran two laps on the course and the varsity did three loops of the mile course. Now the athletes might not of like the course but it was very spectator friendly.
The Highland girls one a close one against East and won against Golden Valley. East also defeated Golden Valley.
In the boys race, Daymon Sandles took the early lead and lead the field of the track with several Highland and East runners in tow. As the race unfolded Highland runners moved up and Blades fell back and by the finish Highland easily took the win over East and Golden Valley. In the last half mile Colin Lewis (Highland Sr) took the lead and the win.

Highland will be lead by Berry
Highland's best Woodward time was 107:47 at theClovis Invite: Where their top five averaged 21:32 over the 5k course.
Like the boys, the Highland girls are good year after year. Coach Mayberry knows how to train athletes and gets a lot of athletes to come out for his team. The top Scot recently is Nichole Berry (Sr) who has improved each year.

- Like Ridgeview, Highland went undefeated in duals and won the SEYL team title. They also have a strong core group of athletes and are hoping a fifth developes. Van Zandt, Turner and Lewis have been winning since they were sophomores and they too want a valley title. The past two years they have been runner-up at valley.
Coach Mayberry has been at Highland for 15 years and is rumored to be stepping down in the near future. In 2007, long time Centennial coach Randy Jones beat Mayberry for a valley title in his final season of coaching and I know Mayberry's squad would love to send him of in the same manner. Besides the already mentioned athletes, another big upside for Highland is they always have large squads and Mayberry knows how to get them ready for the championship season.
